The Bendigo Hotel is back with the biggest of bangs

The Bendigo Hotel
The one-and-only Sun God Replica are playing at The Bendi on September 13.
Words by Michael Pasahidis

Melbourne's beloved Bendigo Hotel is reopening its doors with an amazing line-up through September and October.

We have maybe the best news of all time. THE BENDI IS BACK!

The Bendigo Hotel will be reopening its doors at the end of August in what is going to be an incredible boost for the best music scene in the world.

The renowned venue shut its doors earlier in the year due to what the previous owners cited as financial stresses. Honestly, it was completely fair given the current dynamic we find ourselves in.

But here to save the day are the fine fine folks from The Mill Brewery, who will be reviving the venue and kicking off the shenanigans with a plethora of mouth-watering shows that’ll have you gig lovers jumping with joy. Here’s what they’ve got coming up:

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Sun God Replica

  • September 13
  • With special guests

Melbourne’s resident sun gods are back in a characteristically awesome way. Fans of old will recognise frontman Lindsay McLennan from legend-status Melbourne punk band The Meanies (see Foo Fighters, Geelong 2022) and fans of new will be promised fuzzy guitars and sweeping vocal melodies that’ll drag them back into the decades of Woodstock and Wah Pedals. But don’t take our word for it! As if you needed another excuse to hit up the Bendi.

The Pirateska Rebellion, Loonee Tunes and The New Monos

  • September 20

Ska lives on! We’re grateful for the generosity of Beefy’s Ska Club, who on September 20 will be presenting a line-up for the ages. Featured will be Reggae-Rock powerhouses Pirate Ska Rebellion, along with soulful Ska outfit Loonee Tunes as well as The New Monos, who’ll bring a South American tinge to their world-class Ska. The Bendigo Hotel is heating up!

Couch Wizard

  • September 21
  • With friends Hogwash and Tonemarrow

Is New South Wales Psychedelia a genre? Well IT SHOULD BE. Psychedelic-rock virtuosos Couch Wizard are bringing their intense catalogue to Bendigo Hotel on September 21. Characterised by big builds and crunchy riffs, their songs threaten to (only metaphorically, we hope) blow the roof off the revived Bendi. They have backup in the form of the best kind of Hogwash and noise specialists Tonemarrow. Grab some tickets if you’re cool.

Alt, Written By Wolves and Heartline

  • October 12

This one is going to be huge! The guys from Alt are riding in hot off the release of their latest track Conversations That Hurt, an angst-filled head bopper that seems perfectly crafted to bounce around the Bendi walls. That’s exactly what it’ll be doing come October 12, when Alt along with Kiwi super-talents Written By Wolves and Aussie genre-masters Heartline grace the beloved Bendi stage.

Quagmire Book Launch

  • October 19
  • With guests Quest Master, Tir and Lurid Orb

There’s nothing more metal than books. After a successful launch of books 1 and 2, Quagmire returns for an exciting third release. The book promises a limited edition 210-page publication featuring interviews from Erang, Quest Master, Fogweaver and many more. Quest Master will even be performing on the night fresh off a massive tour through the UK and US. Along with Quest Master will be Melbourne debutants Tir and Lurid Orb. You can grab your tickets here.

We’d say the Bendi have outdone themselves but with a name like theirs, it’s far more likely they’re just getting started.
