Described as ‘a poetic reflection on life and spirituality’, Elegy sees Stephen Baynes explore classical works in a new way.

The first ballet Requiem sees a new collaboration between The Australian Ballet and Victorian Opera. Stephen Baynes plans to explore the theme of life after death with a production than blends a classical ballet performance with a chorus of 26 operatic singers.

Gabriel Fauré’s original score will be presented by the chorus which includes soloists Simon Meadows,Garry RowleyJanet Todd and Emily Uhlrich

Filling the second half of the double bill is Beyond Bach which celebrates classical dance with some of Bach’s famous compositions. Baynes aims to make musical ‘visible’ as well as demonstrating some of the talent that The Australian Ballet’s company has to offer. Anna French, who often works with Stephen Baynes, will also have a chance to present her work, designing costumes for both productions.
