Upon release in 1960, Psycho shocked audiences ushering in a new level of acceptable violence and sexuality in film, with some theatres not permitting entry once the movie began so latecomers wouldn’t disturb the tense atmosphere, featuring the sheepishly handsome Anthony Perkins and one of Hitchcock’s many blonde bombshells Janet Leigh. Following Psycho is another ambitious blonde with Tippi Hedren in The Birds, following the whereabouts of a socialite dodging a series of unexplained bird attacks.
