There’s comedy, cabaret, talks, mindfulness and more.

In early June, Splendour in the Grass emerged with a transcendent innovation, Splendour XR. Billed as a world-first extended reality festival, the event goes down over two days on Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25 and can be accessed via mobile, tablet, desktop and VR.

With a huge first lineup already announced which accompanied headliners, The Killers and Khalid, with the likes of CHVRCHES, Denzel Curry, Charli XCX, Grimes Metaverse (Super Beta), The Avalanches, Of Monsters and Men and Kaytranada, Splendour XR has just lifted the lid on a bunch of other names set to take to your screens.

It comes as part of Splendour’s alternate stages, The Forum, Global Village, Little Splendour, Comedy Club and Tipi Forest.

What you need to know

  • Splendour XR has just ballooned with five extra zones announced as part of the world-first extended reality festival
  • These are The Forum, The Global Village, Comedy Club, Tipi Forest and Little Splendour.
  • The festival takes place digitally on Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25. Tickets are on sale now

Keep up with all the latest festival news, reviews and interviews here.

At The Forum, punters can expect to hear from the world’s wisest and most inspired individuals, with talks and keynote speeches set to take place within this virtual expanse. Through politicians, poets, academics, journalists, comedians, scientists and beyond, festival-goers will be able to hear from influential people such as 2021 Australian of the Year, Grace Tame, Fiona Patten MP, Cassie Workman, Dr Karl, Ethan Nadelmann, while in the music camp, Wafia, Kira Puru and 360 will be appearing.

To the Zen oasis that is The Global Village. If you’re keen to take a second and enjoy some ‘me’ time during the festival, here you’ll experience a great mix of culture, mindfulness and performance. There will be First Nations storytelling and education into native bush tucker, meditation to connect to country, decolonisation and more. Festival-goers can also expect cabaret, spoken word, circus and more in The Global Village.

In the Comedy Club, punters can revel in the hilarity of some of Australia’s finest comics. Think Nazeem Hussain, Anne Edmonds, Geraldine Hickey, Tom Ballard, Michelle Brasier and more, while Tipi Forest will offer electronic music lovers a place to dance, with everything from bass to glitch, house to techno, trance and more to be performed. Producers and DJs performing include April Kerry, Staunch, Hypnotech, Morgazmk, Purple Hayes and more.

Capping off the Splendour XR extras is Little Splendour – a kids-only zone where some of the Australia’s most popular children’s bands and performers will take to the stage. Think Poppy Galactic and The Beat, Red Rocket 3, The Mini Moshers, Tiptoe Giants and more.

Single user tickets will be available from $25.99 for a single day, or from $43.99 for both days. There’s also the XR Party Pack from $79.99, allowing virtual festival-goers the opportunity to create their own Splendour XR house party.

Splendour XR goes down on Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25. Tickets are now on sale. More info here.
