Encompassing some really important organisations.

Aussie musician and all-round legend Kira Puru has put together a list of local indigenous causes and funds to donate to, and we’d like to help spread the word.

ANTaR

“Grassroots movement of Australians in support of justice, right and respect for Australia’s First Peoples,” Puru says in a spreadsheet she created listing all the organisations you can support.

ANTaR is a non-government, not-for-profit, independent, and community-based organisation that has been working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and leaders on rights and reconciliation since 1997.

By building relationships across sectors, they look to amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations.

Change the Record

“Addresses the root causes of Indigenous incarceration and works to prevent imprisonment.”

Change the Record is Australia’s only national Aboriginal-led justice coalition, which is made up of both Aboriginal peak bodies and non-indigenous allies. With a focus on holistic early intervention, prevention and diversion strategies, Change the Record aims to address the root causes of violence against women and children, reduce reoffending and imprisonment rates, and build stronger communities.

All donations up to $50,000 are currently being matched.

Indigenous Social Justice Association

“Works to end indigenous death in custody in Melbourne.”

The Indigenous Social Justice Association is a grassroots activist group, formed after the death of Kamilaroi teenager TJ Hickey, which is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. The organisation works alongside those who have lost a loved one in custody and makes its decisions democratically allowing everyone to have a fair say.

Supply Nation

“Australia’s leading database for Indigenous owned and run businesses.”

Supply Nation provides a search engine for finding verified Indigenous businesses by name, product, service, area or category. You can find businesses to financially support in your local area through their website. The organisation partners with government, corporate and not-for-profit organisations to redirect spend and awareness around traditionally underutilised Indigenous businesses.

The Victorian Aboriginal Legal Services co-operative is a community controlled legal service, providing referrals, advice and information to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Victoria.
