Sunset Sounds will see JAZZPARTY, Squid Nebula, Mama Kin Spender, Danika and more play free live concerts in Prahran and Malvern.

What better way to promote a healthy, outdoor lifestyle in the City of Stonnington’s beautiful parks this summer than with two weekends of free outdoor concerts?

That’s what Sunset Sounds is bringing to Melbourne’s southside, offering a sublime lineup of the best of the best local musicians. Pack a picnic or dine out on an array of food trucks, these are two summer afternoons you won’t want to miss.

Sunday January 14 – Central Park in Malvern East

  • JAZZPARTY
  • Squid Nebula
  • PBS DJ Lyndelle Wilkinson

Naarm’s groove-jammers Squid Nebula have taken 10 years to record their debut album, From Here to You, but it’s finally here for everyone to enjoy and it’s a very good time. As anyone who’s been lucky enough to see Squid Nebula or their frontwoman Bumpy live can tell you, this group is funky, groovy and beautifully driven by strong, smooth vocals.

Just as eagerly-anticipated, JAZZPARTY have been called a New Orleans processional meets Twin Peaks. They’re a feverish delirium that makes people who hate jazz do some soul-searching and people who hate saxophone change their minds…

Finally, a favourite of all us PBS fans, Lyndelle Wilkinson will be MC and on the decks throughout the night.

Sunday January 21 – Victoria Gardens in Prahran

  • Mama Kin Spender
  • Danika
  • PBS DJ Elle Young

When given the chance to see an ARIA-nominated duo for free in one of Melbourne’s loveliest parks, we recommend taking that opportunity with both hands. Mama Kin Spender are one of Australia’s best blues and roots acts and a wonderfully versatile live experience.

They’ll be supported by Danika, whose beautiful folk mastery and subtle jazz and soul undertones has made her a favourite among Melbourne musical lovers in the know. Plus, another PBS legend, Elle Young is on decks and MC duties for the night.
