Sugar Mountain 2023

Sugar Mountain and Boiler Room are teaming up again for another iconic, sweaty, dancefloor moment.

Returning to Naarm’s Seaworks Maritime Precinct on Saturday, 21 January 2023, Boiler Room x Sugar Mountain today reveals another lineup of international and local DJs including DJ Bone, John Talabot, Darwin, Roza Terenzi, Moktar, Colette and DJ PGZ.

Now a mainstay on Melbourne’s dance music calendar, Boiler Room x Sugar Mountain is a collaboration between Naarm festival Sugar Mountain and Boiler Room. Taking over one stage, the event will run from early afternoon until late, with all sets to be shown on the Boiler Room platform.

This year’s line-up sees DJ Bone return to Boiler Room stage. A true Motor City techno veteran, he’s held a residency at four of the top clubs in his home city, Detroit. Barcelona’s master of melody John Talabot also brings his indelible mix of mid-2000s house, techno, balearic beat and disco to Australian shores. Talabot first gained himself a cult following for his 2012 release ƒIN and has since closed out Primavera Sound and collaborated with the likes of The xx.

Canada-born, Berlin-based DJ and label owner Darwin is the founder of REEF: a series of 24-hour raves hosted in Berghain. With sounds rooted in various UK styles from bass to dubstep, garage and breakbeat, her set will be a trippy dancefloor dream.

Naarm’s Colette joins the Sugar Mountain x Boiler Room’s local contingent with a set that traverses funk, RnB, hip hop, jazz and all shades of dance music. Meanwhile, Gunai/Kurnai & Yorta Yorta artist DJ PGZ will explore the contemporary works of Black and Brown producers in dance music. Egyptian-Australian DJ Moktar is set to bring his unique and personal hybrid of club, techno and traditional Arabic instrumentation, and Roza Terenzi returns home after years of extensively touring the UK, Europe, Asia and North America with her boisterous bush doof energy.
