Creative Victoria will review all submissions and pick games based on innovation, distinctiveness and their ability to positively represent the Australian games sector. Preference goes to titles that really nail these qualities, with successful applicants getting the nod within two weeks of submission.
Participating developers need to agree to several conditions, including sticking to the Melbourne International Games Week Code of Conduct and Steam Page Content Guidelines. Games must be free from harassment and bullying content, making sure it’s an inclusive experience for all users regardless of personal characteristics or beliefs.
While discounts during the festival period aren’t mandatory, games offering promotional pricing will get more prominent placement on the showcase page. Developers are also encouraged to provide demos of their games to really boost player engagement.
The initiative is open to all studios and individual developers headquartered in Australia, with no participation fees required. Games selected for the showcase will benefit from Creative Victoria and Melbourne International Games Week branding and promotional support, which is huge for visibility.
Developers keen to participate can submit applications through the official channels, with questions going to the Creative Victoria games team. The 2024 festival page is still up for reference, showing examples of previously featured titles and what’s worked well in the past.
