Exploring Revolver Upstairs: Your guide to Prahran’s crowning jewel this July

Revolver Upstairs
WORDS BY KALANI GIDDEY

July is shaping up to be quite the special occasion at Revolver Upstairs, a place with a storied history in and amongst the gauntlet that is Chapel Street.

With world-class grub and an exceptional sound system holding down the fort, they’ve got every base covered. Your scheduled programming includes all-day parties, cumbia nights, euro-techno, rap collectives and the grimiest of punks! To back them up, Revs has their very own back-catalogue of some of the slickest in the business to tide us all over, while we watch and wait for the world to burn.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

We’ve got an album launch happening people! Revs goes punk as LegMouth take over the bandroom for one night only, launching their debut album Lazy! Self-described as a “punk band from Melbourne who like to fuck around”, get ready for a sweaty one. You’ll be slicing your way through air thick and green with smoke, dodging windmills, crowd killers and karate masters (we don’t condone karate in the pit, stay safe out there) in a pit that’ll heave-ho like a sea of blood and sweat with LegMouth at the helm, weapons of mass punk-struction clutched in hand. Supported by Derrotonin and Dead Beat, consider yourselves more than lucky if you make it out alive. Tickets are dirt cheap as well, so what are you waiting for?

  • Sunday, July 21st
  • w/ Ben Silver, Boogs, Brian Fantana, Casey Leaver, Spacey Space + MORE TBA
  • Buy tickets here.

Joyce Muniz is coming to town this winter, bringing tunes up the wazoo to keep the cold at bay. Consider the dancefloor your place of worship, with Muniz behind her altar, the groove and the rhythm the scriptures, and our collective movement the divine liturgy, bringing us ever closer to sonic deliverance amid these trying times. A self-sufficient force of nature, Muniz has become a bit of a nomad in this post-Covid era,  broadcasting and DJing from wherever the wind blows her, drawing influence from even the most unlikely of places across her travels. With plenty of support from local and resident DJs, it’ll be a proper marathon, with the dancefloor pumping from open til close.

  • w/ That Kid Maz, R.em.edy, Mc Wasp & Dj Dopebeat, Loeaze, Dj Tententen, Dj Deets & Friends, Nolij Art Display

Returning to their old stomping grounds, The Get Down is once again raining down pure fire upon the bandroom, offering a showcase of some of Melbourne’s premier artists in hip hop, rap, soul and R&B. This’ll be a really special night, bringing a multi-media display like no other to Revolver, complete with dope prizes to be won across the course of the night, as well as an art installation and more to keep the place abuzz. So come down and party! Keep the local scene happy and healthy, because at the end of the day, without community there is no live music.
