An all-star line-up will take to the stage at Melbourne’s Arts Centre this September to celebrate gender equality in the music industry.

The fourteen-female-strong SPIRE ensemble will front the night, joined by an array of artists across various genres, showcasing some of the music scene’s strongest performers.

Kate Cebrano, Clare Bowditch, Mojo Juju and Rebecca Barnard are just a few of the fierce females on the bill, with musical comedians Tripod and Powderfinger’s Darren Middleton also showing their support for the cause.

Elsewhere, artists include rappers Mantra, Thando, Wiradjuri Soprano Shauntai Batzke, and Nkechi Anele — best known for fronting the group Saskwatch.

The brainchild of SPIRE’s Xani Kolac, the event aims to highlight female presence in the music industry.

“Stand By Your Woman is about placing more emphasis on the female instrumentalists thriving in this city who can act as role models for young aspiring instrumentalists,” she says. “There’s a myth that the Australian music industry is run by men, when the reality is that women are in every corner of this vast creative enterprise.’
