In conjunction with Green Music Australia’s Plastic-Free July initiative, Splendour In The Grass is introducing some new rules for this year’s festival as part of a wider campaign to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles from the festival over the next three years.
You can expect to see improved water refilling stations this year to promote bringing your own reusable water bottle, a removal of the ban on stainless steel reusable water bottles and the introduction of a ban on plastic straws in all bars and food stalls.
The Green Music Initiative is being backed by a huge string of musicians who are taking a stand against single-use plastic water bottles at gigs and festivals, with the likes of Jack Johnson, Didirri, Courtney Barnett, Birds of Tokyo amongst the 47 artist strong lineup of ambassadors.
GMA and Splendour In The Grass will also host a beach clean-up in Byron this year in conjunction with marine conservation organisation Positive Change For Marine Life, which will see artists from the festival pulling up their sleeves to help pick up rubbish from Byron’s beaches.
