Spicks and Specks

The iconic music show 'Spicks and Specks' will be back on the ABC on Sunday, Aug. 7, kicking off a 10-episode run.

Buzzers at the ready people, the ABC is bringing back the beloved music show ‘Spicks and Specks’ this August for another ten-episode season, with the date and time now confirmed.

Running on Sunday nights for ten weeks, guests lined up for the 2022 season will include Hamish Blake, Denise Scott, Dave O’Neil, Luke McGregor, Rhys Nicholson, Nath Valvo and Zoe Coombs Marr, as well as some new recruits in the likes of musicians Casey Donovan, Montaigne, Emma Watkins, Mama Alto and Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott.

In this season, it’s been revealed that Hills will bury cryptic clues within the regular questions and games, which will reveal the episode’s “Secret Song”, alongside some special performances from some of the best new musicians Australia has to offer.

“As the Australian live music scene slowly gets back on its feet, we wanna give it a leg up by showcasing some of the best new musicians Australia has to offer (as well as a couple of legends thrown in for good measure),” Hills said in a statement today

“Of course, we’ll do it all with some of the best comedians in the country. Spicks and Specks is a joy to make, and this series feels like one of our best.”

Existing games including Substitute, Know Your Product and Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma will also make a return to the beloved show.

Bringing together a bunch of top Australian talent to sit and talk about music, compete for points and just generally be funny, Spicks and Specks became an icon during its initial weekly run on the ABC from 2005 to 2011 – so much so it keeps coming back.

Enjoying once-off reunions, comebacks and four special episodes across 2019-2022, in 2021 it was decided that Spicks and Specks would return to its regular format – it’s first full season since 2014. And now, ten more new episodes are heading our way.

‘Spicks and Specks’ will return on ABC TV and ABC iView at 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 7.
