Vivid Sydney's first Sound Escape line-up drop brings garage rock, disco and hip hop to the resplendent City Recital Hall.

Vivid Sydney’s Sound Escape festival has announced its first line-up, transforming City Recital Hall into a multi-stage party paradise.

The day-into-night extravaganza promises six hours of tunes across four purpose-built stages, with Brisbane indie darlings The Jungle Giants headlining with a special DJ set. Western Australian garage rockers DICE join Sydney locals KLP, POOLCLVB and mysterious duo 2touch on the main stage Hall of Mirrors, but that’s just the beginning…

Melbourne’s disco queen Mell Hall and Adelaide’s Berlin-based producer Eluize round out the Hall of Mirrors line-up, bringing their signature electronic soundscapes to the acoustic jewel of Angel Place.

Meanwhile, the ground level gets a queer makeover with Heaps Gay transforming the space into Grand Voyeur, featuring Gunai/Kurnai, Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri artist Soju Gang dropping her signature old-school hip hop meets dance sound.

Sydney scene mainstays Fried Porkchop, house master Tseba and R’n’B party starter Zeke add to the underground line-up, with more acts to be announced.

Then, those seeking higher tempos can head to The Board Room on Level 1 for an all-DJ rave experience, while funk fanatics can groove at Bar Eden on Level 2. Pop-up performances throughout the space include appearances from Melbourne art icons The Huxleys.

Outside in Angel Place, the free Sound Walk installation created by illumination specialists Mandylights bathes the laneway in light.

The all-ages outdoor experience runs from 5pm-11pm, perfect for dinner in the district before hitting the Light Walk in Martin Place.

It’s totally free and family friendly for all ages, with Sydney-based 3D/VR artist David Porte Beckefeld creating the event’s trippy artwork, based on City Recital Hall’s red-hued foyer. Beckefeld will also art direct elements within the indoor festival experience.

The general on-sale for Sound Escape tickets starts Thursday April 17 at midday, with the full line-up to be revealed in early May. Tickets at cityrecitahall.com. Vivid Sydney runs from Friday 23 May to Saturday 14 June, for more information visit vividsydney.com.
