“The songs of Laurel Canyon echoed down the hallway of my family home as far back as I can remember,” reflects Husky Gawenda. “I discovered my folks’ Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Carole King records when I was a kid learning to play guitar and write songs.”

“I’ve been in love with the sound ever since and in a way, in my own music I’m always reaching for the feeling I had back then, the magic I felt listening to those records. I’m thrilled to now be a part of this show, bringing these songs to life and to be doing it with Australia’s finest folk singers and musicians.”

Nestled in the Hollywood Hills of LA the mountainous neighborhood known as Laurel Canyon was home to a rich tapestry of singers and musicians. Songwriters were coming from everywhere to this little place of hidden hills and valleys of ramshackle houses just 5 minutes away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. In a time of peace, love and understanding, the counterculture of the Vietnam war, the likes of The Doors, Neil Young, The Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, The Byrds, The Mama and the Papas, Crosby, Stills and Nash and many more, all lived within a few streets of one another.

Amongst the jasmine and weed scented hills magical harmonies and sublime melodies echoed throughout the Canyon. A modern musical village was born as they played songs for one another with acoustic guitars in all-night jam sessions in each other’s houses, moving from house to house jamming, writing songs, trying out harmonies, forming and reforming themselves into new groups.
