Gothic and unapologetic, Melbourne’s Yi-Lynn dissects bloody topics: gore, the apocalypse, and love.

Acclaimed storyteller, signer and songwriter Yi-Lynn has just released her newest EP Foul Water. Encapsulating everything that makes the artist special, from gentle and beautiful arrangements to songs that grapple with queer rage, Foul Water is as powerful as it is mesmerising. Alongside as an EP launch at The Gaso on August 19, she’ll be appearing at Open Studio in Northcote for a performance as part of The Boîte’s ‘Portfolio Project’ on July 28.

With a stronghold on the technical elements of folk, classical, indie and pop song writing, her single ‘The Butcher’s Wife’ was declared a winner of the 2019 triple j Unearthed X NIDA music video competition. Writing songs about urban planning and cannibalism, Yi-Lynn has just released her new EP, Foul Water. Recently, she performed at Music Mart as part of Leaps and Bounds Music Festival alongside Nat Vazer, Stella Farnan, Audition Tape and Eilish Gilligan and will now be joining the line-up for the second Portfolio Project showcase on July 28.

Yi-Lynn was selected as part of The Boîte’s ‘Portfolio Project’ initiative. Supporting excellent artists from diverse cultural communities, The Boîte is an organisation that has been celebrating cultural diversity since 1979.  Creating opportunities for 10 emerging culturally diverse artists, their Portfolio Project showcase is a series of gigs that aims to amplify the voices of Melbourne’s best up and coming musicians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Through their dynamic presentation of unique cultural experiences, The Boîte have presented and promoted hundreds of excellent and diverse musicians born in over 100 different countries.
