A Tribute To Josh is at the Bella Union in Carlton from 8pm, with $10 at the door. James Henry and Kutcha Edwards will perform, while Kiwat Kennell does a DJ set.
All ticket sales will be donated to the Hardy Family, Songlines said.
Joshua Hardy was a 21-year-old university student from Darwin who lived on campus at Trinity College in Parkville. He was in the third year of his arts degree, which he was doing on a scholarship. His college mates described him as someone who was popular, excelled on the football field and went out of his way to help others, especially younger indigenous students finding it difficult to cope with college life.
He was beaten to death last weekend outside the McDonald’s on St. Kilda Road in what police called “yet another violent, senseless assault.” He was thrown to the ground and kicked in the head, and died in hospital an hour later.
A man was charged with murder, police said.
