Single Premiere: Hue Blanes delivers the hauntingly beautiful ‘Fernando’

Fernando comes in the lead up to his second solo LP, Holiday set for an April 14 release.

Hue’s sound is reminiscent of Father John Misty meets Jeff Buckley meets David Foster Wallace, sitting somewhere outside of the usual genre boxes, yet somewhere in all of them; jazz, classical, artsong and pop – with Blanes’ stripped back performance offering a distillation of all these influences.

Interestingly enough, Blanes found inspiration in what might be considered an unlikely place – a renowned soccer player’s struggle with depression.

“I was wondering if hugely successful sports players suffered loneliness and anxiety,” says Blanes. “When I read a story about Ronaldo from Brazil, one of my favourite players, having a setback before a crucial game in the World Cup I decided to write about the story from my perspective.”
