On Gambling Man; “Do you believe in luck? One evening at a band get-together down at Maivary Lane, there was word that a fellow musician nearly came to their end down at Merri Creek that day, and it reminded us of how short and precious this life is, and how we gamble with everyday decisions and the impact of such on our friends, family and community.”
Likewise, on Shooting Star he added that it was “a song for the holiday season of hope and dreams.
“After driving back from Sydney in January 2020, when the fires were causing much chaos and devastation, my daughter woke up and started singing ‘shooting star come back to me I forgot to wish for my beautiful dreams’ and I was encapsulated by the lyrics so later that day, while sitting on our veranda and thinking about what we’ve come through, and were still going through, the rest of the song came along. It’s like a time capsule, and yes change was coming indeed.
“Both songs were recorded at Gold Dust studios in Preston by the band. Then we completed the overdubs at home and made production decisions together. Then Matty mixed and mastered them at Maivary Lane Studios.”
