See you at the Sup.
As Meredith approaches, anticipation is at an all-time high. This year’s lineup is enough to make your mouth water and there’ll be no shortage of tasty tunes to keep your energy soaring across the weekend. Here’s a handful of tracks we can’t wait to wrap our ears around at the Sup this month. You’ll find us in the pit, dancing up a storm all. damn. weekend.
Liam Gallagher – ‘Champagne Supernova’
While ‘Wonderwall’ is the golden child of the Oasis catalogue, ‘Champagne Supernova’ is the Britpop kings’ true anthem. Sure, the Gallagher brothers may not be the best of friends, making the likelihood of an Oasis reunion pretty unlikely, but you can bet Liam will be pulling out some of the band’s hits for his Meredith stint. Grab your mates, pull ‘em close and scream the lyrics of ‘Champagne Supernova’ into the sky. It’s going to be wholesome as hell.
Christine Anu – ‘Party’
A truly fitting track for the occasion, Christine Anu’s epic ‘Party’ is an absolute must for Meredith 2019. That naughty bassline will take you straight to funky town as Anu unleashes this ‘90s banger on the Sup. Slip on your red shoes, let your hair down and come join this party — you won’t be sorry.
Róisín Murphy – ‘Overpowered’
You can expect an unhealthily amount of oxytocin to rush through you when the familiar crackles of synth from Róisín Murphy’s beloved ‘Overpowered’ rain down. This will be the avant-queen’s first Australian visit in a decade, and you can bet that pent-up energy is going to explode on stage. This track was absolutely made for festivals and you can guarantee it’ll elicit a big old boogie.
Cate le Bon – ‘Magnificent Gestures’
Cate le Bon’s ‘Magnificent Gestures’ is a bop if ever we heard one – surely it’s illegal, if not downright impossible, to stay still when this bad boy gets going. The uniform toots of sax, cacophony of percussion and le Bon’s immaculately enunciated falsetto make this track unbelievably satisfying on the ears. Bring it on, le Bon.
Amyl and the Sniffers – ‘Westgate’
Amyl and the Sniffers’ 2019 LP is one of the best albums to hit this year, bursting with back-to-back belters that are bound to send the Sup into a frenzy, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t itching to hear their 2017 anthem ‘Westgate’. The gritty twang of bass, racing riffs and utterly chantable chorus make this one a live staple of any Amyl and the Sniffers set. It’s going to get raucous.

Helena Hauff – ‘C45p’
Helena Hauff’s music is transcendent and all-consuming in itself, so bringing her beats into a festival setting may just cause your brain to melt. The droning synth and pulsing beats of ‘C45p’ make you feel like you’re trapped in an ‘80s arcade game slash disco rave. Give your fellow punters a wide berth to dance to this one, the claps of the drum pad will have you throwing some serious shapes.
Viagra Boys – ‘Sports’
“Smoking dope/Short shorts/Cigarette/Weiner dog/Getting high in the morning” – Viagra Boys are basically describing the festival experience in this homage to athleticism (or lack thereof). ‘Sports’ is the kind of track that just begs for an all-in crowd chant. Plus, that mid-song breakdown? Phwoar. Bring your A-game, this one’s going to be a ripper in the pit.
Meredith Music Festival is going down from Friday December 13 until Sunday December 15 at Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre. For the full lineup, head to the Meredith website.
