Secret stages through portaloos to poolside beach clubs: 7 things to do at Beyond The Valley

NYE music festival Beyond The Valley is flaunting its new home in Barunah Plains this year, returning as a four-day camping festival this New Year’s Eve.

After announcing their picturesque new home in the Geelong region and a killer 2022 lineup featuring the likes of Nelly Furtado, Bicep, Dom Dolla, Kaytranada, BENEE, Yeat, Flight Facilities, Honey Dijon, Lime Cordiale, Denzel Curry, Yeat, Patrick Topping, Charlotte De Witte and many more, beloved NYE festival Beyond The Valley continue to whet our whistles with even more enticing announcements.

Experience one of the world’s biggest natural amphitheatres

If you got a taste of Meredith’s Sup and feel like keeping the party going this NYE, Victoria has a brand new amphitheatre to wrap your ears around. Featuring a diverse range of international and homegrown artists, Beyond The Valley’s main stage sits at the heart of new-site Barunah Plains and boasts a larger-than-ever custom design, with superb audio and world-class production.

The 100,000 square metre natural amphitheatre is a perfect performance space, used for over 60,000 years by the traditional custodians, the Wadawurrung peoples as a site for Corroborees and dance performances. Something that will be carried over into the opening of Beyond the Valley with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at the main stage marking the start of the festival.

Go for a swim in the poolside beach club or zen up at the sanctuary

Need a moment to relax? BTV has got you covered! Tan on the sand and beat the heat at the festival’s poolside paradise: Beach Club. Need to recharge and reboot instead? Head down to The Sanctuary for daily meditations, yoga and workshops before heading back into the thick of it.

Discover a concealed party only accessible via a portaloo door

So you’ve found your inner zen at The Sanctuary and it’s time to venture back into the thick of the rave. Not before a stop at the portaloos, because if you pick the right one you will discover the secret entrance to the hidden stage Schmall Club. Uncover this concealed party and rave to spontaneous sets from all your favourite DJs. And if you pick the wrong one, you might still have a Berghain-esque experience anyway, if you know what we mean.

Drag bingo and the roaming pride patrol

There’s a place for everyone to feel at home at BTV – Poof Doof’s party on-the-move, or as it is fondly known, Pride Patrol is sure to be a space to express yourself freely. The fab times keep rolling with Drag Bingo, hosted by the crème de la crème of the drag queen world, you’ll be too busy laughing to shout bingo.

Fly like a bird with Nelly Furtado’s first live show in five years

This year at Beyond the Valley, throwback pop icon Nelly Furtado will be performing an exclusive one-off performance. Bring in the nostalgia and party with Nelly as she brings some of the biggest pop songs of the ’00s including Promiscuous and Maneater back to Australia for the first time in 20 years. Get ready to enjoy the performance of a lifetime, one that is not to be missed!

Australia’s first music festival interactive podcast stage

Interact and chat with podcasters as they record live in an Australian-festival-first experience. Talk kindness with AIME and challenge what you think it’s like to live with a disability with Listenable hosts Dylan Alcott and Angus O’Loughlin. More discussions across the festival will include the likes of Froomes, Abbie Chatfield and Podcast-Stage Presenters, The Daily Aus + many more. So step-away from the music and have all your burning questions answered at the Beyond the Valley Podcast Stage.

Discover the stage design and art installations

Featured in prime position, rising up high out of the natural landscape, the Dance Tent will feature a 70-metre wide LED wall. A further journey into our new home at Barunah Plains will have you stumbling across the reimagined design of the dancefloor colosseum, Dr Dan’s. With multiple levels to climb and dance on, Dr Dan’s will feature headliners, as well as our favourite locals spinning anthems and throwback records. In this unique space, friends old and new can gather for moments we’ll never forget. The Main Stage, which will feature a larger-than-ever custom design.
