Live local music showcase School Night expands to Melbourne with APRA AMCOS support this July.

The internationally acclaimed event launched in the US in 2010 and has been the launching pad for chart toppers and Grammy Award winners, from Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and YUNGBLUD to Australian acts Amy Shark, Lime Cordiale, RÜFÜS DU SOL and The Teskey Brothers. School Night Sydney launched in 2024, highlighting rising stars including flowerkid, Hellcat Speedracer, Miss Kaninna, Surely Shirley and The Tullamarines.

APRA AMCOS is partnering with School Night for the first time to give rising songwriter members performance opportunities as part of its commitment to support local music. The organisation will host four free shows per year at The Lansdowne in Sydney and new venue The Evelyn in Melbourne.

Expressions of interest will open in August for APRA AMCOS songwriter members to apply to perform via the APRA AMCOS website from the first Sydney event onwards.

Adam Townsend, Director of Writer Services at APRA AMCOS, explains that School Night provides an incredible opportunity for Australian songwriter members to perform and develop their craft in front of key industry figures and music fans. The event offers rising local songwriters essential performance opportunities while giving music lovers the chance to discover their next favourite Australian artist for free.

Joel Siviour from Seismic Talent Agency emphasises that Australian artists need pathways to help grow and expand their careers, with School Night’s proven legacy providing the perfect platform to spotlight homegrown talent.
