Your iPhone camera could never.

Your night out at The Curtin just got even better. The venue has just installed a classic chemical photo booth for quick pics – one of the last of its kind in the world.

The Curtin is the first new place in Melbourne to get a vintage film photo booth in more than 20 years.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

The model is the same as the famous (and often broken) one located at Flinders St Station. That device, managed to this day by the legendary 90-year-old Alan Adler, is loved by many and even has its own dedicated Instagram page.

The Curtin photo booth was also used at many train stations throughout Melbourne in the 1970s. Check your parent’s photo albums and they might have a pic from this very same machine.

As Curtin regulars Chris and Jess of Metro Auto Photo are close friends with Alan Adler, he entrusted them to keep this machine safe and well-maintained at the John Curtin Hotel, which has recently become listed as a Melbourne heritage site.

Step into the booth and for the price of $5 you’ll get a film strip of three black-and-white pics. Pile in with your friends, set up an elaborate selfie or pull your crush for a sneaky smooch – we’re doing it old school, baby.

The photo booth will be open to use any time the bar is open, so from Thursday to Sunday.
