The building’s owner, Jinshan Investments, has already applied to VCAT to demolish the building.
The City of Melbourne indicated it would take on the campaign.
On December 23, the Save The Palace Committee, Melbourne Heritage Action and National Trust all lodged applications to be parties to the VCAT hearing. According to a media release, “They have had generous offers of legal support from lawyers and legal firms, however even with the reduced rates offered there is still a substantial cost to be met for senior barrister representation and expert witnesses.”
The VCAT campaign aims to raise $15,000 in order to be represented at the Practice Day Hearing on January 16, possible mediation in February, and the full hearing which will last for at least a week from March 30. Donations can be made online through givenow.com.au/nattrustvicstoptheloss or to the Save the Palace bank account either by visiting a Bendigo Bank or online;
