Rolling Stones for Hanging Rock?

That’s the buzz rumour doing the rounds. Frontier Touring’s Michael Gudinski, who is co-promoting the British superstar band’s March visit alongside AEG Live, would see it as a coup in his vision to turn the Hanging Rock tourist spot into a major music venue.

After well attended shows there by Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen and Rod Stewart, the local Council extended its deal with Gudinski for a further five years to stage shows. The tourist site is to get a $4.3 million upgrade.

So far, the only Stones show announced is for March 22, when they play at the re-opening of the Adelaide Oval to 70,000. Former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor will be opening. The South Australian Government threw in $450,000 of taxpayers’ money to ensure the event snared the Stones.

The band bypassed Adelaide on its last two shows, but it is believed that cricket-mad Mick Jagger couldn’t resist passing the chance to play at the legendary cricket grounds.
