Road Works by Mike Reed

Session Times
Tues – Fri: 11:00am – 5:00pm
Sat: 11:00am – 3:00pm

Mike Reed dabbles in the gravel and raises his sights from quirky street photography to an artful view of “Road Photography”.

Many a time in his travels he has reclined observing the ever-changing sky and its clouds and recalled seeing the phenomenon called Pareidolia which is a type of illusion of light, shadow and form representing something clear and distinct. For example, in the discolourations of a burnt slice of toast, one might see the face of the Messiah. Or perhaps the image of Vladimir Putin in the soapy scum of a shower curtain. After finding some obscure images of an elephant and alien figure, the artist gave up staring at the road… it was quite dangerous too and so he turned to a more fleet-footed graphical approach.

These graphics from the tarmac have been enhanced and the colours have been accentuated to a strident surrealism. Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo, London, Rome, New York, Melbourne and Sydney and one photograph from Cairns Airport!

Mike Reed presents to you, not so much “forty miles of bad road” but graphical and colourful sections of road on the gallery wall and much more in an exclusive innovative book, certainly a desirable collectors edition.

The artist will also display in the smaller gallery a collection of his street photography in a salon style showing Recently Mike’s work was selected by the Editor of Life Framers in their ‘Street Life’ theme, commenting on the “humourous visual narrative that Mike conjures through sharp timing and a clean composition”.
