Ring in 2026 with boot-scooting at Country Struts’ New Year’s Eve party

Words by staff writer

Country Struts bring their beloved line dancing hoedown to the Corner Hotel for NYE.

Forget the champagne towers and overpriced set menus. Melbourne’s favourite boot-scooters Country Struts are throwing a New Year’s Eve hoedown at Corner Hotel on 31 December, and you’re invited to dance into 2026.

Country Struts is the creation of Gail (Abigail Varney) and Glenn (Alice Glenn), two line dancing instructors with over 30 years combined experience getting people out of their shells and onto the dancefloor. Gail is a real-deal rodeo dance queen complete with denim and rhinestones, while Glenn is a concrete cowpoke and founder of No Lights, No Lycra.

The duo have been hosting joyously received line dancing classes across Melbourne in Brunswick, Castlemaine and St Kilda. Their RISING festival appearance earlier this year at Melbourne Town Hall was a boot-scooting spectacular that had crowds heel-and-toeing their way through the night.

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned strutter, everyone’s welcome at Country Struts. The organisers promise you’ll strut out of the venue a little taller, a little more Shania. Pop on your boots or anything you feel comfy in to get those heels and toes singing. It does get a bit sweaty so light clothes are recommended.
