Richard Stubbs’ program will take place on May 19, the first day of the Stonnington Jazz Festival which runs from May 19 to 29 in venues across South Yarra, Prahran and Malvern.

The program is set to feature live performances from some of the Festival’s artists including Sarah McKenzie, Shannon Barnett and Leigh Barker & the New Sheiks.

Sarah McKenzie (pictured) is one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming jazz musicians. She is a vocalist, pianist and composer who has appeared at a number of jazz festivals including the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, York Jazz Festival, Melbourne Women in Jazz Festival as well as the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. She also made her television debut performing alongside David Campbell at the L’Oreal Paris AFI Awards and toured with Michael Buble on his Call Me Irresponsible Tour last year.

Shannon Barnett was named Young Australian Jazz Artist Of The Year in 2007. As a trombonist she has performed with international acts like Charlie Haden, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Barney McAll as well as local artists such as The Black Arm Band, Vada and the Paui Grabowsky Sextet. She also spent a year performing with Circus Oz in their show Barely Contained as a trapeze artist.

Leigh Barker & the New Sheiks have been described as a ‘hard-swining combo’ which features the winner of the 2010 National Jazz Awards at Wangaratta Eamon McNelis alongside three other jazz musicians, all lead by bassist and composer Leigh Barker

As well as these performanes, Richard will wander through the market and speak with some of the market’s stall holders about their lives and the history of their market. If you’re attending, Richard may even ask you a couple of questions about the market and what it means to you.
