Where did the name Muscle Shoals come from?
Muscle Shoals is a town in Alabama know for its soul/country music. But other than that, I thought it had a unique ring to it.
How long has Muscle Shoals been operating?
This is our 12th year.
What do you specialise in?
Second hand records of any and all kinds.
How many records do currently have in stock?
Between 50,000 to 100, 000. I haven’t counted lately.
How do you get new stock?
Travel mostly. From the far flung corners of the world.
What sets Muscle Shoals apart from other record stores?
We are not genre driven. Any record is fair game as long as I think I can sell it. We also do turntable repairs and service, design home audio setups, reel to reel and tape recorders.
What’s your musical background? Did you play in bands growing up?
Yes, lots of them, with different names but the same people. These days I am country singer/songwriter.
What’s the first record you ever bought?
AC/DC’s TNT.
Do you have a record that holds a special place in your heart? Why?
Vashti Bunyon’s debut that I found in dusty rural ACT. How did a record so rare end up on the other side of the world unloved and abandoned? The travelogue these records could tell us.
Do you have a special memory related to Muscle Shoals you could share with us?
Many famous people walk through my door but I never know any of them. It’s only after they have left someone tells me who it was.
What are you doing to celebrate Record Store Day?
We will probably do what we do every day. Except with a 20% off sale and DJs. Oh, and golden tickets! *actual results may vary.
