RAW Comedy returns to Melbourne this month

Australia’s most prestigious comedy competition is back.

After its schedule was disrupted by COVID-19, RAW Comedy will kick off its search for the next big names in comedy this winter, with heats starting on Saturday July 10.

What you need to know

  • The RAW Comedy 2021 dates and venues have been announced
  • Heats will run from Saturday July 10 – Sunday July 25
  • Finals will be held in August, with dates and venues TBC

Having launched the careers of now household name comedy greats including Hannah Gadsby, Ronny Chieng, Celia Pacquola, Matt Okine, Anne Edmonds, Becky Lucas, and Aaron Chen, the country’s largest open mic competition brings together hundreds of aspiring comedians each year.

Back with another batch of funny folk, RAW Comedy will begin its search for the next champion this month with six heats to be held across The Espy, The Evelyn, and Howler.

As always, contestants will have five minutes to perform new, original comedy for the audience and judges. The judges will then select their top picks to progress to the finals, to be held in August.

This year’s heats will be MCed by the likes of Ivan Aristeguieta, Annie Louey, Kirsty Webeck, Daniel Connell, Brett Blake, Lauren Bok, Chris Ryan, Peter Jones, and more.

Heat 1: The Espy, St Kilda – Saturday July 10
Heat 2: The Evelyn, Fitzroy – Sunday July 11
Heat 3: The Evelyn, Fitzroy – Saturday July 17
Heat 4: Howler, Brunswick – Sunday July 18
Heat 5: The Evelyn, Fitzroy – Saturday July 24
Heat 6: Howler, Brunswick – Sunday July 25
