Rare Phenomenon are revved to announce the release of their debut EP titled ‘Illusion’ across all streaming platforms.
All the way from Ferntree Gully, the gateway to the hills, hails Rare Phenomenon, a hard, heavy, progressive rock metal band that combines technique and speed to bring you a new and ‘Rare’ sound.
Having met in their youth, the band members consist of drummer Josh Davies who discovered the drums from the mere age of 5, Rhett Agar, guitarist and vocalist with a background of heavy rock and thrash metal and finally bassist Thomas Fitzpatrick bringing his heavy rock groove and power to the blend. From early days, all members brought their own flare and colour to the sound, with the drumming being inspired by Jazz and Blues musicians adding a percussive swing to each piece, meaning the songs are driving, not stationary. The bass bottom end is steady but with the ability to throw in high level technique to add moments of surprise. And finally, the guitar with more riff based ideas and carrying the overall structure of each song, making sure it has a beginning, middle and end.
These are the unique traits that make up the sound that is Rare Phenomenon.
The EP has 5 epic tracks, all of which demonstrate the full power and unique songwriting of Rare Phenomenon. Particular attention has been paid to new production techniques which sonically bring the music to a whole other level. Recorded between February and April 2026, this release sees Rare Phenomenon achieving new heights creatively as they combine their best material from the past three years onto the EP as a collection of powerhouse metal.
The first Single, ‘Hear Me Now’ was released on August 26th and gave audiences a taste of what is to come. With new experimentation and sound effects implemented, a whole new dimension and atmosphere was created.
The band are backing up their debut EP release with a scorching performance at Bar Open Upstairs on the release day itself – Friday 2nd October. Supported by three-piece Psychedelic rock band Astrogate and three-piece Prog and Alt Rock band Lapidatus.
