Celebrate the Lunar New Year with shopping, games, food festivities and more at QV Melbourne.

In a bold twist on traditional Lunar New Year festivities, QV Melbourne is transforming its central square into a massive interactive Snakes & Ladders game, mixing nostalgia with contemporary flair to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

From January 28 to February 9, the game sprawls across an impressive 8.5 x 7 metre red and pink checkerboard deck in QV Square. Players can jump into this free experience by scanning a QR code to roll virtual dice, navigating through an architectural playground of 3D snake sculptures and ladders – a perfect pre- or post-dinner entertainment running from 10am to 10pm daily.

The celebration hits peak vibrancy during the festival weekend (February 1-2), with the Chinese Masonic Society bringing their high-energy lion dances and martial arts performances to the square from 5pm.

For the lucky shoppers who drop $50 at participating venues, there’s a shot at scoring a piece of the $10,000 red packet giveaway pool. Local culinary heavyweight Old Beijing is going all out with a specially curated Lunar New Year banquet running until February 11.

Co-owner David Loh has packed the menu with symbolic dishes including the interactive Prosperity Yee Sang rainbow salad and the unity-representing Braised Pork Knuckles with Black Moss and Dried Oyster. This year, they’re adding extra meaning to the celebrations by supporting the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

The precinct’s diverse dining scene spans from the theatrical flair of Sura Korean BBQ to Meet Fresh’s Taiwanese desserts, while the newly minted QV Food Hall hosts local favorites like Chunky Town alongside fresh additions such as David Lim’s Bakmi Lim Noodle Project and Local Hero Singapore.

For those looking to keep the party going, Booths Karaoke on Lt Lonsdale St offers multilingual singing sessions until 1am, with a massive catalog of 300,000 songs across six languages – making it the perfect nightcap to your Lunar New Year festivities.
