Queenscliff Music Festival Lineup Additions
Bella Deer
Bella Deer is a Wadawurrung based indie-pop artist known for her emotional storytelling, captivating soundscapes and bold voice. Through her extensive music career as a singer/songwriter, she has released multiple EPs under different project names and collaborations. BELLA DEER is now trailblazing her way as a solo artist, with the support of her 4-piece band. Her anticipated new EP (supported by a City of Greater Geelong Community Grant) takes her listeners on a journey from indie rock tracks, which describe the landscape of southern Victoria, to celestial dreamscape ballads.
Bondi Cigars
This award-winning quartet has well and truly established themselves into Australia’s musical heart since forming in 1989. Rarely has an Australian band received as much consistent and widespread acclaim from critics and music fans alike as the Bondi Cigars. With ten albums under their belt and over thirty years of constant touring, this award-winning quartet have well and truly worked their way into Australia’s musical heart. With their fantastic mix of blues, soul, funk and R & B, they have maintained their status as one of this country’s most in-demand touring acts, with shows numbering over a hundred and fifty each year.
Charlie Needs Braces
Charlie is a proud GuriNgai woman, a direct descendant of Bungaree and Matora. The lands running from the Central Coast of NSW along the mouth of the Hawkesbury river and into Northern Sydney. Having played on stage with bands such as The Teskey Brothers, Casey Donovan, The Seven Ups, and TEK TEK Ensemble, Naarm based musician Charlie Woods is venturing out with her sister Miri to launch the project-Charlie Needs Braces. In 2022 Charlie has been awarded ‘First Place’ from the ‘Upstart Awards’, in 2023 received the ‘Archie Roach Foundation Award for Emerging Talent’ through Music Victoria, and announced they will support The Teskey Brothers in January of 2025
Checkerboard Lounge
Inspirational front man Carl Pannuzzo (drums and vocals), revered as one of Australia’s greatest voices, master guitarist Shannon Bourne, Hammond virtuoso Tim Neal, and ineffable bassist Zoë Frater are Checkerboard Lounge, breathing fire, virtuosity and improvisation into blues, classic soul and roots originals. Their multi-award-winning album Sun Sessions, recorded at the legendary Sun Studio, Memphis, Tennessee, catapulted the band to nationwide recognition. Recent release ‘Roller Coaster’ shot to the top 5 of several national charts. As a live act, no video can really recreate the experience that gleans such ecstatic audience response. An undeniable powerhouse, world class musicianship, dynamic, passionate and playful, Checkerboard are the very essence of a live music experience.
Coterie
Coterie, four brothers making massive waves across Australian and New Zealand coastlines! The band encompass an authenticity often lost in modern music, their records telling lyrical stories drawn from real-life experience and using melodically rich vocals to bring a raw narrative heat to the songs. Immersed in a world of surf and art, the band have developed a unique blend of high energy reggae-rock music that has audiences demanding more!
Elizabeth Riordan
Elizabeth Riordan is a singer/songwriter living in Geelong, Australia. After graduating from the Australian Institute of Music, Elizabeth started touring the major cities of Australia and releasing her own compositions. Her song “I’m In Love With You” won the prestigious Mark Award for Best Production Music Song (Vocal). Her music has been used in video games, Netflix shows, television shows and movies globally.
Hassall
Hassall is a singer-songwriter & self-confessed rambler from the bottom right corner of regional Victoria. Stirring together addictive countrysoulsex-esque vocals, taboo topics & lyrics relatable in the way you don’t want to admit, she emerges into a style self-described as ‘Australian Sharehouse Pop’. Central to Hassall’s charm is her natural ability to connect with a live audience. Those lucky enough to have caught a set are familiar with the ease at which she can turn a roomful of pint-guzzlers dead silent. Bordering on stand-up, Hassall’s Aussie drawl pulls you willingly from story to song, to unrelated shower-thought, and back, somehow tying it all together with her hilariously authentic on-stage demeanour.
Jasmin Adria
Jasmin Adria is a folk-rock singer-songwriter with a keen eye for the world around her. Turning her life experiences into lyrical memories. Adria’s heart is filled with nostalgia and her songs filled with soul. Growing up on the Surf Coast of Australia. Jasmin Adria found her deep connection to music through artists such as Joni Mitchell, Courtney Barnett, Janis Joplin and Angie McMahon. Focusing on a documentary approach to her song writing, Adria sees her music as memories and nicknacks collected from things that she feels, sees and experiences throughout her life.
Joe Terror
Joe Terror, a talented singer/songwriter hailing from Grafton, has excelled in the independent music scene since his debut LP in 2015. With six independent albums and three EPs under his belt, Joe’s musical journey has traversed genres from quirky experimental folk/singer-songwriter to straight-up rock. Renowned for his emotive and powerful performances, Joe Terror has extensively toured the East Coast of Australia, showcasing his evolving musical style with a dynamic lineup of musicians. Following a return to his country roots in NSW after a seven year stint in Naarm/Melbourne, Joe’s latest album ‘My Great & Grand Return’ sees him embracing a raw, stripped-back sound in collaboration with partner Jasmine Loma, whose rich harmonies add depth to his soulful compositions.
Maddie Jackway
Maddie Jackway marries introspective folk storytelling with catchy pop hooks and soulful vocals to create a union that is uniquely hers. With melodies and vocals reminiscent of Meg Mac, Yebba, Adele, Jackway creates music for overthinkers and deep-feeling individuals with an authenticity and earnestness that is hard to ignore. Jackway’s vocal mastery captivates audiences in both recordings and live performances, drawing them into her world as she explores the multi-faceted human condition, yet leaving enough for the listener to ponder on. Hailing from Warrnambool in south-west Victoria, Jackway started out singing other people’s songs in community performances and amateur musical theatre, all the while secretly writing her own songs in the sanctuary of her bedroom.
The Sweethearts
Over the years, Sweethearts have graced countless stages around the globe, from sold-out festivals to intimate clubs, enchanting audiences with their infectious energy and powerful performances. Their collaborations with icons such as Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Pee Wee Ellis, Gil Askey and Vivian Sessoms, have solidified their dedication to soul music. Sweethearts pay homage to the legends of soul while fearlessly carving out their own unique musical identity. With boundless talent and undeniable charisma, Sweethearts inspire a new generation of soul music lovers. Sweethearts have returned from their electrifying Europe tour with a renewed passion for delivering performances that are as empowering as they are unforgettable.
The Weeping Willows
3 x CMAA ‘Golden Guitar’, 2 x Australian Folk Music and Music Victoria Award winners, The Weeping Willows (Laura Coates and Andrew Wrigglesworth) are a couple of old souls, steeped in Bluegrass tradition and draped in Gothic Americana imagery. Real music ! 2017-2024 has seen The Weeping Willows nominated for 14 x CMAA ‘Golden Guitar’ awards, 7 x Australian Folk Music Awards (AFMAs), 4 x Country Music Channel (CMC) awards, 2 x National Live Music Awards (NLMAs), performing Official Showcases at AmericanaFest (USA) and Folk Alliance International (USA) and appearing at Maverick Festival (UK) and the Australian Americana Music Honours. A Weeping Willows performance, whether live on location or caught on tape will always delight.
Winksy
Winksy’s infatuation with music is more than mere admiration; it’s a voracious obsession that ignites their creative spirit. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of artists, including the nostalgia-soaked melodies of The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Harry Nilsson, The Kinks and the contemporary artistry of Cut Worms and Foxygen. Winksy weaves a musical tapestry that speaks to the human experience. Winksy’s musical style combines the influence of their 60’s pop/rock idols with a unique touch of their own, creating a timeless quality that could be described, in its essence, as pop essentialism mixed with vintage revivalism. Willem Kingma and Kelli Blackmore, the dynamic duo behind Winksy, channel their boundless inspiration into creating a distinctive brand of music known for its idiosyncratic lyrics and intricate narratives.
