Q&A: Sandoz

What’s your name then? Oh. And the name of your band…

I’m Ben Burt, the drummer from Sandoz.

And what do you do?

We play good old sticky carpet rock and roll.

When did you start doing that?

Steve Morris (guitar and lead singer) and I started mucking around at Jets, a recording/studio rehearsal room in Bundoora we both volunteered a few years ago. Rhett McLaren (bass) joined and we had Sandoz.

Why did you start doing that?

It’s just good fun.

Do you think you’re good at doing that?

We do, but you should come and make sure we are by coming this Friday to our launch.

If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing?

Steve would probably be a RRR broadcaster, Rhett might start his own music festival or something and I would just join another band, one with a keyboard maybe.

What makes you happiest about what you’re doing?

Having a few drinks in a jam, and making something up with Steve just finding a poem or something in one of his thick and tattered lyric books.

And what makes you unhappiest about what you’re doing?

Packing up a fucking drum kit.

What’s you proudest moment of doing what you do?

It will be when we open the box of 7-inch singles from the record factory.

And your least proud?

Least proud?  Like vomiting all over Nick Cave backstage or something? I like the what album would you take to a deserted island question instead, which would be something by Ween.

When are you doing your thing next?

Friday September 30 at Pony from 9:30pm. Sandoz, Wicked City and The Hidden Venture.
