Define your genre in five words or less:
Anxiety-ridden synth action rock.
When’s the gig and with who?
Antarctica are playing Cup Fucking Eve (Monday November 5) upstairs at The Gasometer in Collingwood – with Soccer Legends, The Queen’s Head and Solaires. It’s a public holiday the next day, it’s our drummer’s last show with us, it’s my birthday that day, and it’s a four band lineup in an 80 capacity room. Shit is gonna get fucked.
When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc?
Antarctica launched an EP entitled BETA a few weeks back – jump on the internet to find it.
What part of making music excites you the most?
The moment of creation. Everything else about it is sex, but this part is definitely the orgasm itself. And just like sex, it’s fun on your own, but even better with other people involved.
Describe the best gig you have ever played.
Antarctica headlined a festival in Estonia on the first European tour in 2010 – pretty crazy considering we’d only formed five months earlier. We signed skin afterwards too. And drank from one litre beer cans. The last sip of a one litre beer can tastes like you dug up a dead person and stuck a straw through their skin into their bladder and then sucked.
Describe the worst gig you have ever played.
When in the Baltics, shit can change real quick. Just down the road in Latvia, five of the toughest dudes out wanted to Fightdance us. Thankfully Fightdancing hasn’t caught on around the rest of the world yet – but if it does, I’m gonna get a real job.
When, and why did you start writing music?
When I was 21 I hadn’t been laid in three whole fucking years.
Where would you like to be in five years?
Flying around town like in some of my dreams.
What advice would you give to bands that are new on the Melbourne music scene?
Go and see Deaf Wish, Nun, The Murlocs, The Steins, Them Bruins, Roller One, Forces, Heirs, Miserable Little Bastards, Van Walker, Guy Kable, and BJ Morriszonkle.
How do you balance making and playing music with your other commitments?
By staying up really late to work on music, and then sleeping in for everything else.
