Name/Band:
Abby Dobson

Define your genre in five words or less:
Uplifting melancholia.

Someone walks past as you’re playing, they get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

“That girl makes me thirsty.”

How long have you been gigging and writing?

Since 1990.

What’s been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

When I was in Leonardo’s Bride, we played in front of 80,000 people at the domain around the time of the Olympics in Sydney. The atmosphere was amazing.

Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?

My ignorance renders me peaceful.

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

Listening to other people’s music, reading, having great conversations and an intense life!

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

They have to be really good and have a disciplined commitment to social media and multi-platform spruiking.

Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?

My last solo record Rise Up should already have had its follow up album. Alas it isn’t ready yet.

Why should everyone come and see your band?

Oh well I don’t know about everyone coming, that could get a bit crowded.

When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc?

I’m playing at the Thornbury Theatre on Saturday September 24, as part of A Night To Remember, a fund raising evening for the Australian Cancer Research Fund.
