Push Over – 40 Years of The Push lands at Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne on 21 November, with 11 artists on the bill.
Push Over – 40 Years of The Push takes over the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne on 21 November as part of the Live at the Gardens series, presented by MG Live, The Push and Double J. Bodyjar, Frenzal Rhomb, Killing Heidi, Magic Dirt and Regurgitator lead the one-day bill, which marks four decades of the youth music charity behind it all.
There’s a twist, too. Every headliner will be joined onstage by a special guest for a collaboration built specifically for the occasion, with Alex Lahey, Alice Ivy, Baker Boy, members of Public Figures, Ruby Fields and Thalia and Cahli from Teenage Joans all confirmed. Who ends up playing with who stays under wraps until the gates open.

The Push has spent 40 years getting young people into rooms they’d otherwise be locked out of, running all-ages programs and career pathways across the country. It was inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame in 2024, and this year rolled out its National Plan for Young Australians and Music, a 10-year blueprint for building contemporary music infrastructure for under-18s nationally.
The original Push Over ran from 1992 to 2013 and holds the title of Victoria’s longest-running all-ages festival, putting a long list of local punk, rock and alternative bands in front of crowds who couldn’t get into a pub yet.
The five headliners all have skin in the game. Bodyjar have seven studio albums behind them, including recent release New Rituals, plus a gold record for How It Works. Frenzal Rhomb have racked up more than 30 years and four top 20 ARIA albums. Killing Heidi’s debut Reflector went to number one and collected four ARIA awards in 2000. Geelong’s Magic Dirt have four top 40 albums and nine ARIA nominations, while Regurgitator’s Unit swept five ARIA awards, including album of the year.
The event is licensed and all ages, with anyone under 18 required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout. There’s no BYO food or alcohol, with catering on site, and everyone needs a ticket apart from babies in arms aged 24 months and under.
