The film, in which Prince makes his cinematic debut, tells the tale of Minneapolis musician, Kid (played by Prince) who uses his craft as an escape from his torturous home life. While navigating the club scene with his band The Revolution, he begins a musical rivalry like no other with Morris as they battle for the spotlight.
With over 100 songs originally written for the film, Purple Rain is equally known for its brilliant soundtrack, winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score in 1984- currently the last film to receive the award.
