Long-running beer punk mainstays Cosmic Psychos have announced the upcoming release of a new album, their first since 2015’s Cum the Raw Prawn. Entitled Loudmouth Soup, the announcement follows the release of two new singles and videos; ‘Better in the Shed’ and ‘Feeling Average’. The new record will be released on the band’s own Go the Hack label, due out on Friday April 6. Catch them at The Grand Live in Mornington with Nashville duo Birdcloud (my favourite band) on Thursday March 29 and The Barwon Club in Geelong on Friday March 30, with proper Melbourne shows at Cherry Rock on Sunday May 6 and The Croxton on Friday May 25.
Melodic hardcore icons Strung Out have announced the departure of their long-time drummer Jordan Burns. From the band: “Strung Out would like to take this opportunity to officially announce that we’ll be parting ways with our drummer of 20-plus years Mr Jordan Burns. We greet this new chapter with a deep sense of gratitude and relief. We couldn’t be more thankful for everything we’ve accomplished together and for our renewed sense of creativity and enthusiasm. We are brothers again plain and simple. It’s extremely important to us that all of our devoted fans know how much the four of us love and honour this band so we expect you to trust that this is in the best interest of Strung Out.” The band is yet to announce a replacement; however, their already announced US tour dates are expected to go ahead as planned.
In a recent Twitter post, Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin posted an image of himself and bandmate/co-songwriter Brett Gurewitz with an acoustic guitar, captioning that there were “new songs in the pipeline”. The long-running punk band last released their album of Christmas carol covers, appropriately titled Christmas Songs, in 2013, with their last album of original material being 2013’s True North. Since that time the band has parted ways with long-time guitarist Greg Hetson and drummer Brooks Wackerman, continuing with replacements Mike Dimkich and Jamie Miller.
Queer icons Hunx and his Punx have announced a reunion show after several years of inactivity. Fronted by Hunx, also known as Seth Bogart, the band’s members have continued on in numerous projects recently, with vocalist Hunx continuing with a solo career and guitarist Shannon Shaw continuing with Shannon and the Clams. The band will be returning to the stage on Friday April 20, appropriately for John Waters’ birthday celebration in Detroit. Bogart also posted “I’m terrible at keeping secrets but more Hunx 2018 news coming soon.”
