There's a hidden gem 15km south of the Melbourne CBD.

Part of what makes living in Melbourne so special is that it’s just so vast. While it’s easy to get caught up in our own corners of the city, there’s always something new and exciting to explore just a short drive or public transit journey away.

With warmer days on the horizon, there’s really nowhere in town quite like the Kingston region. Jam-packed with diverse dining options, cultural events and festivities and so much natural beauty it makes the rest of Victoria jealous, it’s a secret oasis that won’t be secret for much longer.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Kingston is launching its THIS is Kingston campaign, aiming to let the rest of us know exactly what we’re missing out on. “The southside vibe is definitely where it’s at! We have so many hidden gems and hip local traders loved by our community making us the place to be. THIS is Kingston encourages everyone to discover the unexpected,” said Kingston Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns.

“We want to shine a light on the unique attractions that make our city so special. From our beautiful beaches to our bustling markets and underground art scene, Kingston has something for everyone. This campaign is all about sharing what we know and love with the wider Melbourne community and beyond.”

Including the suburbs of Mentone, Mordialloc, Highett, Cheltenham, Dingley Valley and Aspendale, Kingston is blessed with a gorgeous coastline that is perfect for beachgoers, joggers, water sporters, sun-seekers and dog walkers alike.

Just a skip and a jump away, there are plenty of places to grab a drink or a bite, with casual neighbourhood pubs, high-end restaurants, busy breweries, hip cafes and decadent bakeries and ice creameries for dessert. From the Saint Felix Distillery to the ever-popular Bang Bang restaurant, there’s plenty to sample.

But Kingston is more than your average suburban destination. It’s got plenty to set it apart, like the UFO Sighting Ground, the vintage thrift stores packed with treasures and the vast Braeside Park, prime for birdwatching, picnics and long walks.

Despite being only a short trip out of Melbourne’s inner suburbs, visiting Kingston feels like taking a holiday. The chilled-out atmosphere, serene environment and bountiful activity options make it a perfect place to escape to, whether you’re a local, a city slicker or an out-of-towner.
