Prahran Town Hall has traded its after-hours gloom for a projector habit, with Illuminate Chapel running there nightly until March.
Illuminate Chapel switched on at 7pm on 29 October, turning the town hall’s facade and the trees in its forecourt into one big canvas for light and projected images. Brothers Nick and Zach Ennis made it. They’re the pair behind Imaginator, the walk-through light and sound play experience that has set up camp at The District Docklands and in Surfers Paradise. Entry is free, and the show runs every night until 30 March 2027.
What’s on the walls is local. The projections tell the story of the multicultural communities and businesses that have shaped Chapel Street over generations, and the themes rotate through the season. Anyone walking past in November should see something different by February.

Funding comes from the City of Stonnington and a $155,000 Victorian government grant through Business Victoria. The pitch from council is economic. Chapel Street drew 7.4 million visits in 2025 and more than $1 billion in visitor spending, with $347 million of that landing after dark. Stonnington mayor Melina Sehr points to earlier major arts events in the precinct, which council says pulled in more than 100,000 people and an estimated $3.8 million in local spending. The hope is that a light show on the town hall keeps more people eating and drinking on Chapel Street once the sun’s down.
Projections aren’t new to this end of town. Greville Street has had its own winter projection seasons, and artist Rose Staff lit up Chapel Off Chapel’s facade for the venue’s 30th birthday in September 2025. Stonnington is also billing Illuminate Chapel as an early taste of what’s planned for Prahran Town Hall, without spelling out what that is yet.
