Since 2003, Volker Gerling has walked over 3,500km throughout his native Germany, creating flip book portraits of the people he has met along the way.
Now he will bring his his travelling thumb cinema exhibition to Melbourne, through Portraits in Motion.
Gerling will show audiences his favourite flip books by holding each one under a video camera, projecting the moving images onto a large screen, as he shares the stories behind each image.
