Applications close mid-November and the program will run online and in person from January to May 2022.

Through the program, industry mentors will support participants to produce professional recordings of their work as well as an online promotional portfolio complete with professional photography and video.

Participants will also receive guidance on industry best practice related to processes such as achieving publicity and booking gigs. The First Impressions program will culminate with a live performance in a participating event at a Port Phillip venue.

Jointly funded by Port Phillip Council and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, the program is also supported by Songlines Music Aboriginal Corporation and Music Victoria.

The project is among Year 1 actions in Port Phillip Council’s recently endorsed Live Music Action Plan (LMAP), which identified supporting the career development of First Peoples musicians as an area of focus.

The contribution of First Peoples to the musical and creative culture of Port Phillip has been substantial. The First Impressions program will continue to support the career development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and help amplify these important voices in our community.
