Plan ahead: Here’s the lowdown on Melbourne Music Week’s Live Music Safari

Miles Brown & Karina Utomo + Jaala Vs Man

New Guernica will be delivering a unique blend of punk and electronica when High Tension’s Karina Utomo teams her fierce vocals with Miles Brown’s silky smooth synth soundscapes. There will also be dark, electronic performances from a/n, visuals by Mischa Grace and Japanese rope tying by Leh YSL. It’s happening from 10pm.

SAATSUMA + MEZKO + Millu + King IV

Bringing you an immersive night of music and visuals, Loop Project Space and haus trauma will be showcasing up and coming talent from both the electronic and visual arts scenes. SAATSUMA, MEZKO, Millu, King IV, Peachnoise, Crystal Myth, Belle Noble, and Control Zine DJs will be delivering beats accompanied by visuals courtesy of Imogen Henry and Brody X. Get in on the action at Loop Project Space & Bar from 5pm.

Herzeloyde + Beatrice + JPS

Section 8 and The Operatives have joined forces to bring you a smorgasbord of punk-infused electronica, focusing on artists pushing boundaries in their field through their sound and politically-charged messages. Catch Herzeloyde, Beatrice, JPS, Hans DC, Lady Banton, Lotus Moonchild, Nam Rintrah, A13, FLOAT, and Sean Deans at Section 8 for an evening of angst-fuelled jams. It’s going down at Section 8 from 5pm.

PBS Live Broadcast

In celebration of Melbourne Music Week and all things punk, PBS will be hosting a special live broadcast of Fang It. Ruari Currin will be spinning back to back rock’n’roll records from 5pm before taking things live with a set from Clowns, one of Melbourne’s hottest punk bands, at 7pm. Get down to Last Chance Rock & Roll bar from 5pm or tune into PBS106.7FM to catch it.

Moopie + Phile + Tackle

Melbourne-based record label A Colourful Storm will be showcasing electronica’s dark side with exclusive sets by a selection of Australian producers. They’ll be throwing in some surprise appearances throughout the night, along with sets by Moopie, Phile, Tackle, Pickleman, Jez, Hannah Lockwood, and Nerve. Get in on the action at Lounge from 6pm.

Terrible Truths + Bitch Diesel

I OH YOU and The Toff In Town have partnered up to host a raging night of punk rock. South Australian up and comers Terrible Truths will be tearing up the stage alongside Bitch Diesel as a homage to the punk scene. Plus, there’ll be a DJ set by Fraser A. Gorman to keep your feet moving all night long. It’s happening at The Toff from 7pm.

HABITS + Various Asses + Gussy

Bring your A game, it’s going to be a big ol’ sweat fest when HABITS bring their goth party tunes to the stage. Various Asses, Gussy, Kandere, HEXDEBT, trixie darko, DJ Kiti and Dolly will be there to help takeover both levels of Boney, well into the morning hours. It’s going down from 8pm.

Qwerty + GLOVV + Shiny Coin

Tearing down the gender stereotypes of the traditionally male-dominated punk scene, Qwerty, GLOVV, Shiny Coin, and KT Spit will be taking over Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar to prove that femme and non-binary punks have just as much to bring to the table as the male punk-rockers do. It’ll be an all-inclusive night celebrating women, gender fluidity and the LGBTIQA+ community. Come on down from 8pm.

Lowtide + SPOD + DARTS

Fresh from their European tour, dream-pop trio Lowtide will be headlining a huge night of tunes at The Curtin. They’ll be joined by SPOD, DARTS, Sarah Mary Chadwick, and Summer Flake, all bringing their own sound to the mix for a diverse night of quality live music and good vibes. It kicks off at 8pm.

Miss Blanks + LAY The Mystic + Sovereign Trax

Miss Blanks has been blowing up the hip hop scene with her explosive live energy and killer rhymes exploring female empowerment, and isn’t that what punk music is all about? She’ll be headlining an evening of female talent, joined by LAY The Mystic and DJ sets by Sovereign Tax and MzRizk. It’s happening at Ferdydurke from 8pm.

Noah Slee + Swooping Duck

Get ready to groove with New Zealand R&B act Noah Slee and funk-driven hip hop ensemble Swooping Duck, AKA the Hiatus Kaiyote rhythm section, take over Belleville. Wear your comfy shoes, you’ll be boogying down with these cats until the AM. It’s going down from 9pm.

Hotrod & The Burnouts + OK EG + Nullstaat

Steeplejack Records have curated a mega lineup for Live Music Safari this year, with Hotrod & The Burnouts, OK EG, Nullstaat, Sow Discord, Harold and Ham all paying homage to the punk ethos with their full-throttle energies and unapologetic attitudes. Catch them at Hugs & Kisses from 9pm.
