Amsterdam-based house music record label and movement, PIV Records have been rapidly spreading their iconic deep house sound around the globe since their inception in 2017. From Tomorrowland in Belgium to Pacha in Barcelona, to Space in Miami and now Australia, they are taking the world by storm.

For the first time ever, PIV Records are venturing to Australia for a one-off tour. That’s right, Melbournians and those willing to make the trip to the city on Friday December 16 will be lathered in the sonic elixir of some of the finest house DJs and producers in Sidney Charles (UK), Archie Hamilton (UK) & Prunk (NL).

Each artist has an extensive influence within the world of house music, and also their own unique palettes and styles that embody the contemporary house sound that PIV is gaining notability for.

The event will be packing out Bourke Street Courtyard with what PIV describes as “advanced house music with a classic touch”. Partygoers can expect just that and more as PIV Records has spent time sitting at No.1 in the deep house category on Beatport.

Coming off the back of their very first home city festival in Amsterdam, which was nothing short of a great success for all those involved, this event is shaping up to be one of the most epic, the upcoming Australian summer will feature.

As one of the headliners for the event, Sidney Charles is a DJ, producer and label boss who has refined his sound from traditional ‘90s house music to a melodic, deep and polished style that sits authentically as his own in the current house music climate. Directly inspired by the deliberate drum positioning in hip-hop music, namely A Tribe Called Quest’s album Low End Theory, Charles has incorporated hip-hop mixing techniques into the way he DJ’s and produces house music today.

Setting him aside from the pack, the impact that a passion for hip-hop music has had on Charles’ distinct style leaves audiences shuffling their feet well after a performance. Having reached the heights of number 1 on Beatport for track All Night Long and number 2 for his single Ruff Line, Charles has also received the accolades of RA’s most charted artist in 2013 and two nominations for Best Producer and Newcomer in the Ibiza DJs Awards. If this isn’t enough of an incentive to attend the event, then you’d better have a serious excuse.

Further bolstering the wealth of talent featured in the lineup, is the connoisseur of underground house and techno music – Archie Hamilton. Dubbed a pioneer of the new wave of minimal techno and house music that has permeated throughout Europe comprehensively, you can expect dynamic basslines and a transcendental multi-sensory bath stemming from the music he plays.

2022 saw Archie launch a brand new conceptual series of events. Entitled Frequency, the series boasted three spectacular performances featured at Mint Warehouse in Leeds, the Steel Yard in London and Lab 11, Birmingham respectively. The concept itself homes in on state-of-the-art pairing of sonic and visual production to enhance the experience had by audience members. Having released his maiden album pre-pandemic, eventgoers can expect an utter spectacle with Hamilton at the helm.

Founder of PIV records Prunk rounds off the headline acts for the upcoming Melbourne event. Having steadily released EPs and singles for well over 10 years now, Prunk has not only maintained a prolific career as a producer, but he has also performed live around the globe from Moscow to Sao Paulo to Bali. The latter being especially important due to his Indonesian heritage, but also because of the significance of Jenja (the premier club in Bali) within the global electronic music and party scene.

Collaborating with Bas Roos and Chris Stussy following on from scouting them out, Prunk is not only having an individual impact on the house music scene around the world, but he is also exposing talent in the most exciting of partnerships. He has well and truly established a strong presence in the worldwide house music scene and in light of this show in Melbourne, doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
