Garrett’s new album is a deeply personal journey, inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of Australia and the vibrant culture that thrives within it. It is an endeavour close to his heart, showcasing a reflective side to the singer who has been a prominent figure in the country’s music, politics, and environmental movements.

The album features contributions from his band, The Alter Egos, which includes the remarkable Martin Rotsey, known for his guitar skills with Midnight Oil. The band’s line-up also includes Heather Shannon on piano and keys, Evan Mannell on drums, Rowan Lane on bass, Freya Schack-Arnott on cello, and Ollie Thorpe on pedal steel. Moreover, two of Garrett’s daughters, May and Grace, add their voices to some of the album’s key tracks, making this a family affair.

Garrett’s powerful single, ‘Innocence Parts 1 & 2’, was unveiled as the first taste of the album. The song carries a powerful message, reminding listeners that “it’s never too late.” Produced and mixed by Tony Buchen, renowned for his work with artists like Smashing Pumpkins and Montaigne, the single showcases Garrett’s enduring talent. It’s a follow-up to his 2016 debut with The Alter Egos, A Version Of Now, which soared to the top three of the ARIA Album chart.

Peter Garrett has long been a figurehead for change in Australia. His activism, political career, and role as the lead singer of Midnight Oil have cemented him as one of the nation’s most influential voices. His accomplishments include leading the Australian Conservation Foundation for two terms, spearheading the successful case against Japanese whaling, and introducing a new needs-based funding system for schools during his tenure as Minister for School Education. These endeavours earned him the ‘Leaders for a Living Planet’ award from the World Wildlife Fund and a place in the Order of Australia for his contributions to the music industry and the environment.

Peter Garrett’s new solo album, The True North, is a testament to his enduring passion for music and activism, and his upcoming tour is a chance for audiences to witness the magic in person. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to Garrett’s work, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
