The Melbourne singer-songwriter refuses to conform on her latest album, which ranges from feminine fury to a song about a missing cat.

Rainie Zenith’s music is anything but boring. She’s an artist who’s wildly creative and not afraid to follow her whims down whatever path that may take her, which has led to a collection of surprising and adventurous tracks that can only be described as a rainbow cake of sensation.

Her debut album, Polychrome Renegade, is a kaleidoscopic sonic journey held together by Rainie’s effervescent spirit. Mashing moods and themes with glee, the album borrows influences from pop, rock, folk, metal, cabaret, punk and EDM. To say it’s full of surprises would be an understatement.

On the frenetic piano track Piss-Soaked Ecstasy, Rainie tracks a relationship gone sour. On the dance-pop banger that is Pushing Thirty, she muses on getting older but being young at heart.

On the humourous Reasons To Hate Me, inspired by her adult autism diagnosis, Rainie opens with an unforgettable line: “I don’t shave my legs / and I don’t fertilise my eggs” before building the song into a catchy, swinging jaunt that’s ultimately about self-love.

Elsewhere on the album, find the wistful folk song Ugly Sometimes, reminding listeners it’s okay to be sad when things go wrong, the heavy-hitting PMS Anthem filled with hormonal female rage and The Joy & The Pain, a heart-wrenching ballad about forbidden love.

What makes Rainie Zenith’s work shine so bright is its unapologetic sense of self. It’s loud, it’s colourful and it’s unconventional, but always grounded with the artist’s real emotion and impressive songwriting chops.

To celebrate the release of Polychrome Renegade on August 14, Rainie is heading out on an Australian tour. After an appearance on the lineup of Moorabbin’s eXposure networking event, she’ll be kicking off her run of shows in her hometown of Melbourne before hitting Sydney, Wollongong and Brisbane.

Armed with an electro-uke and her infectious energy, Rainie will take to stages across the country, bringing joy and creative expression to all those who catch a show.
