O & the Mo team with The Bures Band for psychedelic folk double bill

Words by staff writer

O & the Mo and The Bures Band bring dreamy psych-folk and four-part harmonies together for co-headline show.

New Zealand’s O & the Mo arrive from the mountains around Nelson with their blend of psych-folk, pop and balearic rhythms, complete with electronics and spaghetti western influences. O & the Mo & The Bures Band represents their second Australian tour, following the release of their album Make Way for the Sun earlier this year.

Australian act The Bures Band complement this with gorgeous four-part harmonies and CSN-influenced melodies that draw from psychedelic americana folk traditions. Their two albums showcase throwback sounds that capture the essence of classic folk harmonies while maintaining contemporary relevance through their songwriting approach.

Both bands specialise in music that transports listeners to different eras and landscapes, with O & the Mo’s South Island mountain influences contrasting The Bures Band’s americana-tinged approach. This co-headline format allows each act to present full sets while creating an evening that flows between complementary yet distinct musical styles.

O & the Mo’s recent album represents their current creative peak, blending organic and electronic elements in ways that feel both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Meanwhile, The Bures Band’s catalogue demonstrates their mastery of harmony-driven folk that recalls the golden age of the genre while adding their own contemporary perspective.

Standing-only format suits both acts’ performance styles, though limited seating is available on a first-come basis. This intimate venue setting allows audiences to fully experience the nuanced arrangements and vocal interplay that define both groups’ live presentations.
