Comedy at The Round debuts at The Round in Nunawading with Kirsty Webeck, Jude Perl and Annie Louey.

Comedy at The Round is a new showcase series launching at The Round’s Studio in Nunawading on 16 May, featuring comics from Australia and abroad, curated by veteran comedy programmer Janet A McLeod. The first instalment brings together three distinct performers for one 75-minute set with no interval.

Headlining the debut is Kirsty Webeck, who has spent over a decade building a reputation as one of Australia’s most popular touring stand-ups. A former MICF Roadshow performer, Webeck has appeared on Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont-Spelling Bee and released her first stand-up special Silver Linings on Paramount Plus. She is currently touring her new hour Lost For Words across the country.

Supporting is Jude Perl, a Texas-born, Melbourne-raised musical comedian who has won three Green Room Awards for Best Original Songs and a fourth for Cabaret Artiste. Perl’s show I Have A Face took out Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe in 2018, and her work Share House: The Musical premiered at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Fairfax Studio with a 15-piece orchestra. She has performed on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala.

Hosting the evening is Annie Louey, a Chinese-Australian comedian and presenter who started performing at 16 after winning the national Class Clowns competition.

Since then, Louey has appeared on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Opening Night Allstars Supershow twice and won the Moosehead Award in 2021 for her show Annie Louey is Flirting with Death. She has hosted two seasons of China Tonight for ABC TV and wrote for the final season of Rosehaven. She is also a registered marriage celebrant, so take note if you are planning a wedding.

Comedy at The Round is billed as the first in a series of showcases bringing together established names and emerging talent, each lineup hand-picked by McLeod.
