Nominations Revealed for the Inaugural Corner Award

The recipient of the 2016 Corner Award will receive a headline show at the Corner Hotel, pressing of 150 copies of a limited edition 7″ vinyl single, a cash cheque of $2,000, rehearsal time at Bakehouse Studios and an exclusive mentorship session with a prominent Australian independent label. As a special mention, another artist or band will receive a month-long Artist In Residence at Bakehouse Studios.

Nominations for The Corner Award for 2016 are: Ainslie Wills, Fortunes, Jordan Rakei, Sampa The Great, Aldous Harding, Friendships, Julia Jacklin, Slum Sociable, Alice Ivy, Fuck The Fitzroy Doom Scene, Koi Child, Sui Zhen, Ara Koufax, Gawurra, Kucka, The Belligerents, Bad//Dreems, Gold Class, L D R U, The Bennies, Banoffee, Gordi, L Fresh The Lion, The Goon Sax, Baro, Grenadiers, Luca Brasi, The Harpoons, Boo Seeka, Harts, Marlon Williams, The Murlocs, Bootleg Rascal, Hey Geronimo, Mighty Duke & The Lords, Thelma Plum, Briggs, High Tension, Ngaiire, Total Giovanni, Cleopold, Hockey Dad, No Zu, Tyrannaman, Dorsal Fins, Ivan Ooze, Olympia, UV Boi, Ecca Vandal, Jaala, Pearls, Vallis Alps, Edward Francis, Jeremy Neale, Ribongia, Vera Blue, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, Jess Kent, Sahara Beck, Waax, Jess Ribeiro, Sampa The Great and Wafia. 

Experts from different facets of the music industry were invited to come together and curate a list of innovative artists, rather than selection via an arduous application process. They delved into their vast music knowledge, frequent show attendance and understanding of the current Australian music scene to choose and support artists that are breaking the mould and making an impact with their music.

The selection panel for the award includes Linda Bosidis (Head of A&R Aust/NZ, Mushroom Publishing), Helen Marcou (Bakehouse Studios, SLAM), Jacinta Parsons (Assistant Music Director ABC Local Radio/Double J), triple j Unearthed’s Max Quinn, music programmer Anita Nedeljkovic and the Corner’s Anna Northeast.
