Tiger King is the gift that just keeps giving.

A new limited scripted series based on Tiger King‘s Joe Exotic is coming to our screens and Nicolas Cage has been cast as the leading man. The role will mark Cage’s very first regular television role.

According to an exclusive report by Variety, the show will centre around eccentric private zoo owner Joe Exotic as he fights to save his zoo in Oklahoma. The series is based on an article published in the Texas Monthly by Leif Reigstad titled ‘Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild’.

“The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation,” reports Variety.

The real Joe Exotic had previously publicly suggested the likes of Brad Pitt or David Spade to play him should there be a Tiger King spin-off, but based on the synopsis for this series, Cage feels like the perfect choice.

There’s no release date, as yet, though Dan Lagana (American Vandal) has been revealed as showrunner, writer and executive producer for the series while Cage will also serve as an executive producer.

It’s going to be wild.
